PM Modi is set to inaugurate India's first under-river metro tunnel built in Kolkata.

The inauguration event, encompassing multiple metro and rapid transit projects nationwide, signifies a significant stride towards elevating urban mobility and connectivity. The spotlight of this development is the Kolkata Metro extension, specifically the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade Metro section, featuring India’s inaugural transportation tunnel beneath a major river.

This engineering marvel not only underscores the technological acumen behind its construction but also emphasizes the strategic importance of connecting key areas in Kolkata, thereby enhancing the efficiency and reach of the city’s public transportation network.

Alongside the underwater metro, PM Modi is set to inaugurate the Kavi Subhash — Hemanta Mukhopadhyay Metro section and the Taratala — Majerhat Metro section, integral parts of the Joka-Esplanade line. The Majerhat Metro Station, an elevated architectural marvel spanning railway lines, platforms, and a canal, showcases an innovative approach to urban mobility enhancement.

The inauguration event extends beyond Kolkata, with PM Modi flagging off vital projects across the country. These include the Pune Metro’s Ruby Hall Clinic to Ramwadi stretch, Kochi Metro Rail Phase I Extension from SN Junction to Tripunithura, Agra Metro’s Taj East Gate to Mankameshwar stretch, and the Duhai-Modinagar (North) section of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS Corridor.

These projects are designed to alleviate road traffic congestion, offering seamless, efficient, and comfortable connectivity for the public. For instance, the Agra Metro’s newly inaugurated section is poised to enhance access to historical and tourist sites, while the RRTS corridor aims to stimulate economic activity in the National Capital Region (NCR).

In addition to inaugurations, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for the extension of the Pune Metro Rail project phase 1 between Pimpri Chinchwad Metro-Nigdi, signaling a commitment to ongoing expansion and enhancement of urban transit infrastructure.

This comprehensive initiative underscores the government’s dedication to developing sustainable and efficient transportation networks across India, with the goal of revolutionizing commuting practices, reducing environmental impact, and fostering economic growth through improved connectivity.
