Mumbai Indians’ newly-appointed skipper, Hardik Pandya, is set to lead the team where he initially launched his IPL career in the upcoming 2024 season. The decision to move from the Gujarat Titans to the Mumbai-based franchise has stirred discussions in the cricketing community, particularly as he takes over the captaincy from Rohit Sharma. Despite the ongoing chatter, Pandya expresses his joy at returning home after a two-year absence.

During a conversation on Star Sports, Pandya reflected on his cricketing journey, expressing gratitude for the unwavering support of fans. “It’s a blessing beyond words,” he shared. “Returning to Mumbai Indians feels like coming back to where it all began. From my early days in Baroda to Mumbai, this city has been instrumental in my growth, instilling in me humility and resilience. The city’s love and teachings are invaluable, shaping me into the cricketer I am today. Mumbai always challenges you to be better, and now, with the IPL, I have returned home after 2 years.”

While some Mumbai Indians’ fans have voiced displeasure over Pandya replacing Rohit as the skipper, the all-rounder appeals for their support as they aim for success in the IPL 2024 season.

“I seek the same backing from our fans to propel us towards victory,” he urged. “Rest assured, I’ll ensure a thrilling season that every supporter will relish. It’s a journey we’ll all enjoy together.”

Pandya also reminisced about the 2015 IPL season, his inaugural year in the T20 league, emphasizing its transformative impact on his life.

“Coming from Baroda, the 2015 IPL was a life-changing experience for me. Representing Mumbai Indians amidst seasoned players was a turning point in my career. Playing alongside established players on such a grand platform changes your life. I was fortunate to contribute significantly in knockout games, bagging two ‘Man of the Match’ awards. It marked the beginning of an extraordinary journey for me, a chapter I’ll always cherish.”

The Indian government has issued a reminder to social media platforms regarding deepfake videos following the recent viral incident involving a video falsely attributed to actor Rashmika Mandanna. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has emphasized the legal provisions that pertain to deepfake creation and distribution, along with the potential penalties involved. The advisory cites Section 66D of the Information Technology Act, 2000, which deals with ‘punishment for cheating by personation using a computer resource.’ It states that individuals who use any communication device or computer resource for cheating through personation could face imprisonment for up to three years and a fine of up to one lakh rupees.
