Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have encountered a significant setback ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, as their star batter, Devon Conway, is set to miss a substantial portion of the competition. The New Zealand international is scheduled to undergo surgery on his left thumb, following an injury sustained during the T20I series against Australia. New Zealand Cricket confirmed this unfortunate development, stating that Conway would require a minimum of 8 weeks to recover from the surgery. Consequently, he will be unavailable for the opening match of the IPL 2024 season against Royal Challengers Bangalore on March 22.

The official statement from New Zealand Cricket reads, “BLACKCAPS opener Devon Conway will this week undergo surgery on the left thumb he damaged during the KFC T20I series against Australia. Following several scans and specialist advice, the decision was made to operate on Conway with a likely recovery period of at least eight weeks.”

Amidst concerns about CSK’s batting lineup, there has also been speculation surrounding the future of MS Dhoni in the Indian Premier League. Many experts and fans believe that IPL 2024 could potentially mark the final season for the former Indian cricket team captain.

Although Dhoni has not made any official announcements about his future, his childhood friend Paramjit Singh provided insights into his playing career, stating, “I do not think this will be his (Dhoni’s) last season. He is still fit. I think he will play one or two more seasons. He will definitely play one more season. The reason is he is fit,” as revealed in an interview with OneCricket.
